It is really salty (of course ) and that took a little getting used to, sometimes it irritates my throat, and I tried breathing it through my nose just to see what it did , and it gave me a big ol' sinus headache for the next 24 hours (will stick to regular nasal irrigation-lol).
It made me cough like crazy for at least a week, to the point that I strongly considered quitting it (was coughing more during the day, too) but now (about 2 months along) I don't cough nearly as much during treatments or after during the day, and I am finding it to be a good measure of how well I'm doing day to day (getting puny, cough more during HTS). I'm not getting the congested feeling I used to get either as often- even the day I forgot my Advair in the morning. I would do my xopenex and HTS in the morning if I couldn't do anything else, now.
If it's bothering her nose, maybe you could get little kids swimming nose clips to wear under her mask? I'm sorry, I don't know how old she is... If she is 2 or older, maybe you could offer her a treat (even a piece of candy- like an m&m- at this point) for doing it for a few seconds (to get her caught on to the idea) then a
minute (and an m&m- this will also give her a break from it), then another minute, for say, a total of 3 minutes the first time. Then 2 minutes each time, for 6 mins., etc.? Even if you are starting with the 3%. Eventually, she will get a few m&ms at the end for doing her treatment .
Also, this will also give her the chance to pick which senario she wants- mom making her do it, or doing it herself and getting a treat. Just a thought!
I guess the trick is that, (I am assuming she is young) since she probably isn't old enough to understand that this is good for her, that she needs something to make it worth it to her while if she doesn't like it . We all need that every once in a while! lol
Heck, the promise of a caramel sundae from McDonald's made my clinic appointments worth it to me as a kid! LOL
If she's younger than that- maybe this will help someone else, and I haven't helped you a bit! Sorry!
