Doing the vest with a port?

I'm on a cycle of aztreonam, cefepime, and meropenum. I do two weeks of one, switch to the next, ad nauseum. Really, don't wish it on yourself- it's a last ditch effort when the oral antibiotics stop working, and you get high fevers when you're off of IVs.

I can't complain because I do feel pretty good- I can still do a lot. But it's frustrating to know that if I go off for more than a week, I'll be sick again and unable to leave my couch.

I vest with port acessed all the time. If for some reason it is sore, I jus un do that side on the shoulder. The other important thing is that you need to make sure that the tubing coming from the needl e is not hanging down. I have had that happen and because I had the pressure up so hi , I stretched and pulled on that needle and boy does that hurt.

Your daughter having a port was a good decision that you made. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get mine! It makes everything so much easier and my arms aren't torn up from picc after picc. Like others have said, manual PT is a good idea until the incision heals. For me, the vest can be a problem when I'm accessed because of the location of the port itself. I usually undo the top buckle on the vest and it takes off some of the pressure. When I'm not accessed it's not a problem. Best wishes for your daughter!
