Actually you should avoid all spinach, bagged or not. My
husband works in the corporate office of a restaurant chain and
they had a mad scramble last night to pull all the spinach from
their restaurants. They actually told their produce
vendors to make sure there was no spinach on their trucks that
deliver their produce (for fear of it touching any lettuces bound
for their restaurants). So if you go out to eat in a
restaurant this weekend avoid the fancy salads that may have
spinach in them. <br>

I actually saw a similar story on Dole bagged lettuce from a couple months ago. I will try to find it. It basically said that many people were getting sick after eating bagged lettuce cause it (e.coli?) actually gets through the roots, so washing alone won't even matter. Its already in the root system of the plants. ..... Again, I'll try to find the story and post.
Well, not exactly what I was looking for (and a lot longer than I thought), but here's some info. I think the story I saw on the news was more recent though. I'll keep searching for it.

We still have spinach on our shelves, here in Aust.
I love spinach baked with rice and cracked eggs on top. I guess if you are baking or boiling it (ie, to put in pastrys such as spinach and ricotta rolls) it shouldn't be an issue.
