Early cataracts?

I saw the Opthamologist today because I've been having awful problems with my vision for a while now. My eyesight has declined quite a bit, which he says he doesn't see a lot in people my age (47), other than needing to go to bifocals. (Which I have a prescription for.)

The other thing is, I have cataracts already! He said they are around the rim and not covering the center yet. I asked if the Prednisone could do that and he said it might speed things up a little, but he didn't think it was the main cause.

My question is, would this have anything to do w/ the CF? I hadn't heard of it in any of my readings, but just thought I'd ask. My mother has macular degeneration, glaucoma and both parents had cataract surgery last year. Maybe I just inherited some bad eye genes. But if you have CF and had early cataracts or vision deterioration (in over 30yrs of age) I would like to hear it.

im suprised that he didnt think prednisone was the main cause. pred plays a huge role in cataracts. id say that plus your parents 'eye trouble' genes would be the culprit. ive never heard of CF alone causing cataracts, only the medications used to treat CF.
