Earthquake in New Zealand

Also my husband and I are flying down to Dunedin which is kinda close to the earthquake...and I'm a little freaked about going, as I have heard that they felt the quake as well...but it's probably me just being overly worried about it lol

We had planned this ages ago for our 5th wedding anniversary and as a holiday too, so to late to change plans now lol

Thank you Jane, Stacey and Shine for your well wishes.

Apart from sleeping poorly, I am managing my daily routine well. This morning I have been tuned into the dreadful state of emergency in Christchurch. Watching the scale of damage across the city is heartwrenching. I'm sure by now you are all very aware of what our garden-city looks like. My hosp. appt next week was going to coincide with the Annual garden show, no more! For a while the marquees set up for the show were taken over by Cvil Defence, some tents also were a temp. sleeping place for the homeless.

Today's focus is of course rescuing more people, hope appears to be fading as time goes by. Sadly the death toll to date is 70, the Police are releasing victims' names later today. Several are from overseas. Also today the Mayor has just announced they are sending teams of contractors into the suburbs to hopefully repair plumbing and restore water to households. He is also giving sound advice, stating we need to grow our community links.

My son lives on the East side of town, where certain areas have sustained alot of ínfrastructure' damage.
I have heard from some dear friends, they, thank God, are safe. I can't reach two though, this is a concern, as both of the girls worked in the city area. Cell phones, landlines and power are a luxury they no longer have in Eastern areas. Roads too, are still unsafe, with the amount of liquefaction prevalent.

Shine, we have an excellent Adult CFsupport group here in NZ.
Their National Office is based in Chch. I have learnt the building took quite a hit, but it's still up and functioning. I am sorry I do not know the status of other CF patients in the areas affected, however I do know our lovely Adult Cf rep, Lisa is safe.

I see on the tv coverage many rescuers are wearing facial masks, I imagine the dust from the still falling masonary would be choking. I do hope you and your husband have a great time in Dunedin, congrats on celebrating 5yrs of togetherness. We are living closer to CHCH and apart from feeling the innitial quake, we have not felt any of the aftershocks. The first quake on Sept 4th last year we felt too, however the poor Christchurch residents have had to endure 5000 aftershocks, leading up to the big one two days ago.

Hi Eileen,

Thanks for replying Glad to here Lisa is safe and that the c.f building is okay!

How are you, your family and friends coping at the moment?

Are you able to get supplies from hospital for meds, etc?

Again my heart goes out to the familes who have lost their loved one. It is so very sad that the death toll has risen to 103 people...

Would really like to keep in touch with you Eileen. Please if you are able to, please keep me up to date on things with you.

Still very much praying for you all you Cantabrians. And my heart goes out to you all <3

Big hugs your way,

Love Sarah

Hello again!

Just a little update from yesterday, late last night the two friends I had not heard from, since the earthquake struck, made contact. They are safe and sound. Thank God. In one case a home has been deemed unlivable and the other home, which came thru' the September quake unscathed, has received alot of damage. They have relocated to temporary places, getting their lives together again!

I also spoke to my son and grand-son, both are faring well.
They have great neighbourhood support, with an evening BBQ and get-to-gether to boost each other's morale. Not having facilities is proving a challenge, collecting rain water in a bucket is something he never expected to envisage.

Hello Sarah,

Thanks again for your words of encouragement.

I haven't heard from the hosp., re my routine appt for next Tuesday. I will make contact this afternoon. I had my usual cultures done earlier this week at the Greymouth hospital and will forward the results to my Cfteam via the net, as I strongly suspect I won't be travelling to the city!
My meds, I pick up from the Pharmacy in Greymouth {my nearest town} I had hoped though to call on the CF office to pick up my e-flow which was under repair, the battery lid gave way!! Lost it's little teeth....

I see there is an massive rescue operation starting today in the suburbs. Thank God! Also I see there is a real fear of the Grand Chancellor Hotel collapsing. It's moved vertically 1.5metres.

Sarah I would love to stay in touch, I will send a pm later today, meanwhile thanks again for your support.

Take good care
With Hugs
