Thank you Jane, Stacey and Shine for your well wishes.
Apart from sleeping poorly, I am managing my daily routine well. This morning I have been tuned into the dreadful state of emergency in Christchurch. Watching the scale of damage across the city is heartwrenching. I'm sure by now you are all very aware of what our garden-city looks like. My hosp. appt next week was going to coincide with the Annual garden show, no more! For a while the marquees set up for the show were taken over by Cvil Defence, some tents also were a temp. sleeping place for the homeless.
Today's focus is of course rescuing more people, hope appears to be fading as time goes by. Sadly the death toll to date is 70, the Police are releasing victims' names later today. Several are from overseas. Also today the Mayor has just announced they are sending teams of contractors into the suburbs to hopefully repair plumbing and restore water to households. He is also giving sound advice, stating we need to grow our community links.
My son lives on the East side of town, where certain areas have sustained alot of ínfrastructure' damage.
I have heard from some dear friends, they, thank God, are safe. I can't reach two though, this is a concern, as both of the girls worked in the city area. Cell phones, landlines and power are a luxury they no longer have in Eastern areas. Roads too, are still unsafe, with the amount of liquefaction prevalent.
Shine, we have an excellent Adult CFsupport group here in NZ.
Their National Office is based in Chch. I have learnt the building took quite a hit, but it's still up and functioning. I am sorry I do not know the status of other CF patients in the areas affected, however I do know our lovely Adult Cf rep, Lisa is safe.
I see on the tv coverage many rescuers are wearing facial masks, I imagine the dust from the still falling masonary would be choking. I do hope you and your husband have a great time in Dunedin, congrats on celebrating 5yrs of togetherness. We are living closer to CHCH and apart from feeling the innitial quake, we have not felt any of the aftershocks. The first quake on Sept 4th last year we felt too, however the poor Christchurch residents have had to endure 5000 aftershocks, leading up to the big one two days ago.
