Any ideas on how to stop the bloating when you/I eat. Every time I eat I get bloated...we're talkin I look 12 months pregnant here. When I don't eat I'm fine. Why is it that when we eat we/I get bloated? what's the connection?

For me its usually 1 of 3 things. Gas (that hasnt yet passed); Constipation (also which hasnt passed) or not enough enzymes for what I ate.

Do you use generic enzymes? My doctor says that the generic enzymes are not as good as the name brand for absorbion, and cause a lot of side effects including bloating. My insurance won't cover the name brand version unless I get the prescription approved before filling (my doctor takes care of this).

I had always used the name brand version until about a year ago when my pharmacist told me that the FDA was pulling enzymes from the market (which wasn't true, so I'm not sure why they told me that - but I am at a new pharmacy now, so its moot). They seem to work for me in that I am maintaining my weight, but I definatly notice a lot more painful bloating (especially if I eat a large meal), and such that I won't go into. I am in the process of getting back on the Pancrease, and should be this week. It will be interesting to see if there is a difference.

Apparently this must be a common problem, cause I get the bloating too. Today I was at the mall with my sister who is 5 months pregnant and some one had asked if we were both pregnant! So hmm anyways i dont know what the deal is but would be interested in any suggestions as well

Thanks

Me again....I should mention that I have tried 3 different types of enzymes and went back to my old ones (Ultrase and Ultrase MT12), but I have never been bloated like this. Could it be old age? LOL I dunno, just pullin at straws. Still would like to know the connection with bloating when eating. PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEEEEE HELP!

Thankx

I guess its one of those things we cant git rid of. I have tried those gas X pills...surpisingly it helps whent he problem is gas related. Have you ever asked for a fat test or whatever it is to see if you need enzymes and how strong they should be?

I wish I had an answer for you, but unfortunately I don't! I get the bloating too, and have not been able to figure it out. In the morning my stomach is pretty flat, but as the day goes on and I eat I get more and more distended. After dinner I look like I am pregnant..... What a pain! Glad to know I am not the only one.

I've had the bloating problem since I was little (24 now). My doctor started prescribing protonix and that relieved some of the bloating. I drink a lot of ginger ale which seems to help. I've also found that if I eat six small meals instead of 3 large ones that greatly reduces the bloating. But I haven't found a way to get rid of the problem I can only make reduce it.

Try watching how much sodium/salt you eat. I know with CF salt is a must, but I have some liver problems and salt blows me up. Ask your Dr's about adema related to the liver.

I notice a lot of replies appear to be from females. Is this an isolated problem or are some of the above posters male? Any males get bloating? (I don't).

My 3 yr old has this problem too. Her belly is completely flat in the morning and is huge by the time she goes to bed. It's so hard finding pants that fit her b/c of this.

It actually got really bad a couple of years ago, and a friend of mine suggested acidophilus. I went to the gastro doc to see if she had any suggestions, and she wrote a percription for acidophilus. It works great. If I have extra gas, it's because my food wasn't digested right, so the there's bad bacteria in my gut. So, I take acidophilus to eat the bad bacteria. Seriously, when I have left to go get some on my work break, because it helps that much.

What I try and do which helps me too is I take fiber tablets everyday. I take a couple different kinds from GNC, and since I have been taking them, my gut has stopped bloating or hurting like 70% less. i take drink the old fashion mucymyst too. I think I spelled that wrong.

When I eat pizza or anything that is fatty like that, I take an extra fiber tablet and mucymyst and it pretty much works. I may have a little gas sometimes, but far less.

Carbohydrates cause a lot of gas and bloating. Sometimes i have to stay away from large carbohydrates for a while until my body is able to digest them again, sometimes a couple weeks will go by with little large carboh's like bagels or such.

Those are some of my tricks, but I am also on Creon 20 from Solvay, not generic.
