eczema

Hi,
I have not been to this site for a long time but something came up and I knew this was the place to get answers. Our 4 yr old (w/cf) has dry patches of skin on her ankles and wrists. I took her to her pediatrician and he says it is eczema.
Is this common in CF? Is she not getting enough fluids? Or do I need to relax and stop thinking that everything is related in some way.

I have a problem with excema on my hands, and there was a time I had a problem with it on my neck because of a medication I was taking. Forget what, though. Anyway, i've4 never heard of excema being realted, but you never know; new stuff pops up all the time. (For the record, i'm pretty sure the excema on my hands is caused by chemicals at work... like dish soap or something like that. i could be wrong, though. =-)

I have eczema on my hands too. Its not from anything external though, I just have it. If your doc recomended a cortizone cream try to limit it to only serious out breaks since it isn't going to work forever. Try shea butter either 100% or a lotion with a high concentration. It has vitamins A, C, and E to help the skin heal and moisturize. It also seals in moisture and won't sting. hello LMG, I only recently came to be familiar with eczema while on a trip to the dead sea in israel for my CF. The dead sea has long been recognized as the worlds top location for the treatment of any and all skin abnormalities. My son (now 4 with cf), had a problem with eczema when he was a baby until he was about 2 years old. It only appeared in certain small patches (ankles, by his knees, his cheeks). He started using Elidel (prescription) when he was 2, though I didn't really apply it that often and still have 2 tubes of my original prescription. He grew out of it (while he was 2), which happen a lot in children with eczema. I also wonder if the eczema was somehow related to his problems tolerating milk (it popped up somewhere in my research a long, long time ago back when I thought he just had a milk allergy or intolerance).
My 1 year old daughter (no cf), does not have any signs of eczema.

Hey guys, just thought I would add that my 5yr old with CF, has had exzema all her life. Mostly on her arms and thighs. I feel it is part of her CF, thats just my thought. My son has no signs of it and he is 4 with no CF. I use beta derm cream, but really, it doesn't help much, so I just leave it and it doesn't seem to bother her at all.

Hi - My 9 year old with cf had this when he was younger. The only thing that worked and he is still eczema free is adding supplements of Omega 3-6-9 and zinc to his daily pill routine. This worked like a charm. Good luck.
