Eflow advice

I got my eflow last night for AZTREONAM only though. They changed a few things since the last time I had it (which was July) and I wanted to share some of those findings with all of you who use the eflow.

First of all, one of the things they changed is with the actual device. Apparently they found that the most contamination happened where the mouth piece and medicine chamber connected to the actual machine. They changed the dynamics of the machine now so that we cant connect them there. Those of you who have an eflow know that there is also a connection you had the option of using which connected the eflow to the mouth piece/medicine chamber...THAT is what I HAVE to use now. There is NO OPTION to connect the moutpiece and machine anymore. This will ideally cut down on contamination and probably stickiness on your eflow device. So my advice would be for you to use that connection as well. I will try to post pics later today.

Also as far as cleaning, that has only changed in the sense that they GAVE me the phase III cleaner to use. They still advise to rinse in tap water, wash with soap (not disinfectant soap) and tap water after every use. They instructed me to use the phase III cleaner 1-2 times a week, soaking the parts in it for 10 minutes (with the head piece in a separate container from the others) then rinsing them in hot tap water. Thats what I will be doing.

Caitlin, Are you talking about the extension cable when you say connector? The way your saying is no longer an option is pluging the handheld directly into the orbit base?

Does it not bug the crap out of you that they aren't recommending sterilizing it before use - - WTF?

A while ago I posted about a leaking Eflow. Well I've had many. I highly suggest you call them for a new Eflow if you detect any problems. This device still needs refinement and it's up to us the let them know...otherwise they will think everything is working just fine. From my experience I will not ever be using any sort of heat for washing or sterilization. The tolerances on the parts are just too fine and a slight change can cause additional leaking.

Do you mean the first time before you use it? Yes they recomend that...but I think you are talking about before EVERY use (?). I dont want this to come out the wrong way, but I have said it before. The constant sterilizing breaks down the plastic and (i am guessing metal) parts...which would CAUSE it to keep leaking on you. During the previous study, I would get a new mouthpiece every other month when I got the drug...and I cleaned it just like they told me to (as described in my above post) all along. I never had a problem with any of those leaking. It will be interesting to see if now (that I am not getting a new one every month) whether I have your problem. I am going to follow the directions that they say for now, as I have not had any problems (as I see it) with contamination.
