*bike to work every day (about 25 min there, 30 min home--uphill, yuck)
*go to a gym 2 to 3 times a week. There, I do 30 min on the treadmill--15 min at 6 miles/hour and 15 min at 5 miles/hour. Then I do about 120 situps, and finally do about 20 min of weight lifting, usually the 12 pound ones.
*also, at the gym is a sauna. going in there after a great workout is nice for the meditation, but also something about the psychological "my lungs are clear" is great too.

Results:

Obviously I knew that this regime would help me and my CF, but I was amazed at the physical results (and "vanity" results too . CF wise, my PFTs remain stable at around 115%. An added bonus is that I feel MUCH less congested on days in which I did the running. I know that biking helps, but it is something about the focused, intensity of running that really loosens up any chest congestion.

Physical/vanity: sleep better, more "toned" abs and arms, jeans fit/look better, I can outrun most my friends.

I definitely recommend working out

Has it increased your FEV 1? Yes
What do you do? (cardio, weight training, etc?) Jogging
How many times a week? 5-6
At home or a gym? home on treadmill or at park with toddler in jogging stroller when warm
Do you notice a difference in your health? Yes, I am doing very well now. I havent had an exacerbation in a very long time. Just colds that I recover from quickly, they dont linger for weeks anymore. I huff/cough/spit every 5 mins and that makes my lungs feel more comfortable while jogging.

I exercise alot.

Every other day, I do cardio. Sometimes that consists of an aerobic video, but mostly it has been on the treadmill. I am trying to jog. I warm up for 5 minutes with a 4mph walk and then I am up to 15 minutes of a 5mph jog. Then I either walk for the rest of the time at 4.2 mph or work in sprints. I have done 9mph, but only for 30 seconds at a time. It really works those lungs though.

On off days from cardio, I am working on either T-tapp which is basically isometric muscle training or my quigong breathing tape.

I have FEV1 of 74%. I know it could be better, but at 33 years of age and culturing cenocepacia for almost 15 years, I am so thankful for it and praise God for it.

Pepsi, if you have any routines that might be helpful for me, I am very interested. My problem is finding the time when we have a foster baby in the house.
