Family member has a staph infection

Hi. Need some advice. I have been struggling with this for a few weeks. A family member had a really bad staph infection that took 1 month to heal over (just recently). She still has pink scar tissue on her back, but one doctor said pink can mean inflammation. She takes care of my daughter a few days a week normally. Since her staph I have kept her out of the house.

When do I let her back in our house and take care of our daughter? Is she safe now that it has healed over? How long does the bacteria live on her clothes, things, etc.? Sorry if I sound completely ignorant, but there is so much conflicting information available.

Thanks,
Edan.

I know this has come up before -- specificially with MRSA. Siblings wcf where one has cultured it in their lungs, a parent who has it in the form of a sore and is concerned with their child contracting it...

In our case it was a relative who had cultured mrsa pneumonia. Wasn't anyone we were going to visit, but my FIL was thinking about it and he has major sinus issues. In that case, DS' ID doctor indicated that they should think long and hard about how important the visit was because there is always the risk of contracting it and ds getting it. Is there an infectious disease (ID) doctor you could speak with about this?

Thanks for your reply. I asked our clinic and they said there was no one on staff to talk to about it?? So frustrating! I'll post in families to try to get some more input.
