FDA approved drugs

Here is a scarey link to some recent findings about contaminated heparin. What exactly are we getting when we pay higher prices for "FDA approved" "big-pharma" "American" drugs. I think we are all getting ripped-off!

For every drug out there that does not work there are 100's of drugs that do. W/O drug companies there would be no pipeline to look at or hope for a better life to wonder about.

Yes, I agree that drugs are great!! My question though is why are we paying sooo much more for drugs than other countries so that we can have the protection and assurances of the FDA when they are importing ingredients from other countries that are unsafe. If we are going to continue to pay high high prices, I think we need some better assurances that our drugs are safe. Many people in the CF world use heparing regularly.

I saw on some investigative reporting just how and where we get a majority of our heparin from. A major source was china, with a very disgusting looking dirty room with pig intestines floating by and they squeeze them to get the component in the intestine mucosa to derive into heparin. Extremely disgusting.

Anyways, while drugs have helped us quite a bit, the way we approach illness and the way we treat it, and the actual way big pharma functions is laughable at best.
