Its the same here in Canada. Press 1 for English, press 2 for French. But we're also known as a Bilingual coutnry. Funny thing is, is that majority of Canadians speak english.

Things like that just don't bother me. It's not a big deal to me. But, the only language/ethnicity thing that does bother me-secretaries and other healthcare workers that speak terrible english. And in Manhattan you come across alot! That bothers me b/c in the health field you can't affored mistakes like that. I think its good to have bilingual workers, but english has to be the first language! I hate it when I'm trying to make an appointment and the person can't spell my name, schedules the wrong date...ug.

Does it scare anyone else that this country gives driver's tests in
spanish, but all the road signs are in ENGLISH!?! *slams head
against desk* Everything's going to hell...if our forefathers
from other countries had to learn English to get by in this
country, the Mexicans should learn it, too, PERIOD!

My friend told me a story about a co-worker who was a waitress in
Shells. She was serving a table with a bunch of
Spanish-speaking women, who asked her if she spoke Spanish.
She replied no, and one of the women had the nerve to say,
"Well, you should!" I would have taken the menu and
smacked her in the face with it...

lol....i saw mind of mencia on comedy central last night and he said the same thing. That America has driving test in every single language, but all the road signs are in english.

I think that if you move to america, you should be required to learn english...no exception.

My history is a bit rusty, but I think that after the war of independence? there was a vote to see what language should be the official language of the USA, and German was narrowly defeated by English.

Dont know if that has any relevance to anything

This annoys me sooo much. I worked in a small town with a large mexican population. They would come in and try to communicate their needs and then get pissed at me cause I didn't know what they were saying!!!

We have lived in our house for about a year and a half and it seems that we got the phone number of some mexican who has problems with bill collectors. I get so many wrong number calls in Spanish. I finally said, last time I checked this is the u.s. and in the u.s we speak english. If you would like to talk with me, speak english! and hung up.
