Got my vest in the mail today!!!! YIPEEEEEEE. I chose the Respirtech Incourage system, due to a better fit and other such reasons. Its sooooo cool!! I was very excited to finally see the thing and have it be mine (unless of course there are problems with insurance). I had taken the day off today from subbing because of course, I am sick yet again! It escalated bad yesterday, runny nose, tight cough...blah. So the vest will be put to a good test and hopefully work well. Anyway that opened up a lot of time for me to do treatments. I have not done HTS today, so again had more time. I DID do albuterol, HTS, and Tobi(back on that for the cough I have) today and the VEST.

My question is what can I do while I am vesting? Why cant I do Tobi while vesting? I am still going to take a few days off of HTS so that will free up time...but as it is I get up at like 5 to sub every day. I cant get up earlier than that, I need my rest. I will be on Tobi for two weeks (I start Aztreonam again in a few weeks), I am always on Albuterol, Pulmo and HTS (unless my coughing is bad). Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I lift weights and do reps while I'm vesting. I also do a lot of stretching (bending down to touch my toes, etc.) which has the effect of postural drainage and works well.

I find that I can take a nap in mine. Some mornings I'll get up earlier than usual just to start vesting without fully waking up. I can type while I do mine, do jumping jacks, prepare breakfast (be careful near the stove though! You don't want to melt anything important!)

I also use that time to get in some writing. Other times I just sit and contemplate my day.

The reason that you shouldn't do tobi when vesting is because the goal of tobi is to get far into your airways and stay there to fight off any growing infections. The goal of the vest is to force things out of your lungs. Doing tobi while vesting is sort of like spitting in the wind. Nothing goes where it's supposed to.

Do your vest while HTS and pulmo. It will get in there and break up the stuff better...or it does for me anyway. Dry vesting isn't as productive for me. When I first started doing pulmo with the vest I brought up lots of gunk it was great!!! Now I just feel better doing it with the pulmo or HTS.

Also you don't want to do TOBI while vesting because vesting is to get the stuff out and you want the stuff out BEFORE you do TOBI so it gets in there better. Any airway clearance should be done before the inhaled abx.

Good luck with the vest I hope you love it!

I usually have my computer in my lap when I'm vesting , but I also fold laundry, sort socks, pay bills, hem/repair/sew things, play my Wii ("bowling" while vesting is interesting, haha), cut coupons, make my grocery list...pretty much anything I would sit down to do. I've even put wheels on my vest table so I can roll it out on the back deck for when we get Ab her swingset .

Yay for the new vest!
