Fingernail Update

I know everyone here is interested in my fingernail update, so here it goes.

Pre TX I had some deep ridges in my nails. I could run my nail over another and it sounded like a musical instrument.

Now, about 5 months post TX, the ridges have "grown" out. It was weird. At one point you could see the "line" when I had the TX. Anyway, today my fingernails are totally smooth, but still clubbed.

My toe nails are slower and so you can still see the TX line.

I hope this was informative for everyone. Next month I'll update everyone on bowel movements post TX....j/k.

I'm a carrier (my daughter is the one with CF).

My toemails are ridged and always have been. I can make the cool musical instrument noise on them. They split along the ridges, epecially in the winter and it is painful.

Interesting that THIS is the carrier symptom I got. My mom has it too.

Personally, I'd look forward to the bowel movement update!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Are you talking about vertical or horizontal ridges? I have vertical ridges and I asked my CF doc if it was related to CF and he said no.

I think it is funny to see this cause I was just noticing my nails the other day. I am 3 years post and still have some clubbing but in the past 6 months my nails have become visible flatter. There is still clubbing close to the nail bed but the farther towards the end of my nails (about3/4 of the nail is no flat with a small hump where the nail grows out. I have that on my thumb and forefinger and slightly on my middle finger, which were the most noticeable clubbed nails I had on each hand. My ring and pinky fingernails look the same, but were not overly clubbed in the first place.

I guess the point is it definitely takes time for the clubbing to really go away, but it does get there eventually. I haven't had any problems to date either - lung wise no rejection or major infection my SATs have stayed around 98-100% and my PFTs have been a constant 90% since about 6 months post transplant.
