First time with O2 at the gym

Hey, everyone...

Well, last night I did it! I took my new portable Helios to the gym with me! (Gold's Gym)... I finally got the courage and once I was wearing it I didn't really care what others thought. They were pretty darn curious though! LOL.... And, its pretty small, so not as noticable as I thought it would be (I just hung it on the treadmill and that was it!)....

The bummer thing is I've recently pinched a nerve in my hip or something so couldn't run or even walk too fast up hill cause of the pain it caused, so I just did a mediocre workout.... urgh. The sad thing is, even with walking uphill at 3.5 my HR never got above 125 with the O2 on 2 liters!! I've had panic attacks that raise my HR more than that! ha ha.... So, I can tell already I'm going to have to work harder to get into the "cardio HR" zone. Before, I'd be at 155 within the first 5-10 minutes! So, I assume this is a good thing and means that instead of burning fat like crazy, my heart will now be able to be more like a "normal" heart and work more efficiently. Thanks to everyone who stood by me with this process as ya'll know I was pretty resistant at first to getting the O2 and going to the gym with it. But, now I know how I FEEL with it and am soooo glad ya'll mentioned it to me! Thanks!

Hey Sonia

I can just imagine those curious people looking at your O2. They were probably thinking that if a person needs O2 they shouldn't be working out. LOL I guess you showed them! Keep up the excercise!!

CONGRATULATIONS on making it to the gym with your oxygen!!! i'm so proud of you, sonia. i hope you notice a huge positive difference.

i am personally dreading the day i have to show up at the gym with oxygen--you are an inspiration!

let us know how it goes. that is very interesting to me that with the oxygen your heart rate isn't getting up as high. i have checked my pulse ox at the gym doing the EFX machines and i never get below 90, which is good for now. i have a feeling that if my choosen type of cardio was running that i would need oxygen to keep up.

You are AWESOME! I am so proud of you for going to the gym with oxygen. I know it is not easy to do with people staring. I run on a treadmill 4 times a week & have been for the past 10 years. I couch a ton & get so much mucus up. I hate it when people give me nasty looks, & actually say mean things to me. I know they think I am getting them sick, so I do understand, but sometimes it just gets to me. I never for one day have let that stop me from going to the gym though. It is what keeps me alive!! Stay strong & do what you gotta do to stay healthy. I admire you for going to the gym with oxygen & I am sure those people at the gym do as well. If my day comes when I need a tank, you bet I'll be doing the same. You rock! Keep it up!
