Flexible Spending account end of year tax stuff

We have a flexible spending account for health stuff from my husband's work. What types of things do you stock up on to make your lives easier. We have some extra money in htis account, if we don't use it we lose it.

So, far i've stocked up on Pari nebs as well as disposable nebs for travel. Contact Lenses for myself. A thing to encase Maggie's mattress as well as pillowcases(dust mites) Hope that one is included. I plan on stocking up on Boost Plus drinks, acidophlilus.

My husband and I were thinking of getting a generator for the house in case of the power going out. we figure it would be covered by the flexible spending account because of the medical equipment we have; nebs and VEST and we do get some power outages in the winter. Anyone know if it would be covered.

also stocked up on over the counter stuff, tylenol, milk of mag, tums etc.

Thanks,

Rebecca(mom to Sammy 8 no CF and Maggie 3 1/2 with CF)

It's rare we have left over flex, we've gotten new eyeglass frames/contacts, gone to the dentist for an extra cleaning/flouride treatment. Depending upon how much money you have left, would you have a need for a spare compressor for travel or to keep at a relatives?

The end of the year I usually stock up on prescription meds because once we've reached our $1000 out of pocket maximum for meds, each prescription is only $15

Also keep in mind, you still have a couple of months before the end of the year -- are you going to have expenses from flu shots, copays for office calls. Are their any tests, doctor appointments that you and your husband may need -- this is the time of year I usually schedule an appointment with the dermatologist for my annual skin cancer check.

Your husband's HR department should be able to give you a list of
items covered under the flexible spending account.  I'm sure
the list would also be on the IRS.gov website somewhere although I
just tried to find it for you and couldn't locate it.  FSAs
are governed by the IRS because there are tax implications, so the
generator might be pushing it, but who knows.  You also might
be able to itemize the generator as a capital improvement to your
house or as a necessary medical expense (you can do that if you
build a wheelchair ramp, etc), but you would probably want to talk
to a tax accountant about it if that's the route you
go.  <br>
