Flood in North Dakota

Liza,

I am glad to hear that you are OK. It seems like the situation is getting worse. I don't post very often (with 3 kids I just don't have the time!), but I read these forums everyday so I feel like I 'know' the regulars, if that makes any sense!
My dad grew up in Fargo and my grandpa (who turns 92 tomorrow!) lives in Bismarck. We live in California, so we only get up there about once a year, but North Dakota has always held a special place in my heart!

DH is exhausted -- came home at 2:30 a.m. to sleep and headed back out at 6. Have been dealing with ice jams. His cousin lives on the river in Fargo and they're supposed to evacuate, but they're giving it one last night. Their teenage daughters came over to my inlaws to pick up some clothes, and then were going to have to crawl over a contingency dike as their house is on the wrong side.

My office building became a command center for various law enforcement groups -- we were setting up cots all over the place -- ran to the grocery store for soda and water and the shelves were emptying out of food. Good thing DS and I make weekly trips to Target and the grocery store so we're set for home.

Got a call from my neighbor -- he'd taken the bus to the clinic and then they cancelled bus service. I had to run there anyway and pick up a bunch of scripts -- that place was a zoo.

DS' daycare director is living at the center. They live north of the airport and their house is surrounded by water. Another one of DH's cousin's lives on a farm west of our town and is dealing with the same situation. They're fine, just stuck out there til the floodwaters recede.
