Flu shots

I would yell really loud. My kids doc, give the whole family one, on account of me. She says everybody qualifies for the first round. So complain to someone who is high up in the clinic.

I'm in Maryland........I got my shot last Tuesday at the children's
treatment center where I am doing clinicals (extern). Oddly, the
shots for staff were in but not for children. Reason: the agency RX
paid for the adult shots (or shipments). The children's batch was
being paid for by Health Kids or something like that (a state
sponsored program). The pediatrician's office had no flu shots
either, said the supplier "still" had not shipped them.
Our allergist has them so I will try to run Josh in this week to
get one.

I got one a couple of years ago at a shot clinic at Giant and was
there for hours. That was the year they had the really bad
shortage, "04 I think.

Best of luck to all.

Just because I don't ever use my insurance to cover the flu shot (since I go to a pharmacy around town or the county health dept., who won't bill private insurance), I noticed the other day that I paid $25 to get my shot at the Walgreens clinic and the public health office just got there supply in and are going to start giving shots tomorrow morning for $30. I thought it was really strange that a traveling flu clinic like the one that comes to Walgreens has shots $5 cheaper than the local county health district!!! I would think the health dept. would charge less cause they're more than likely getting uninsured people and/or people who can't go anywhere else. It doesn't matter to me, I just thought it was weird that they're charging more. Sorry to digress.....

Anyway, Liza... where are you at with the flu shot situation for yourself?? Have you been able to get one? I sure hope so. And, hope you're ALL keeping healthy up there!!!

There's a flu shot blitz tonight from 5 to 9 at the downtown clinic and one way south of town tonight. My inlaws are having similar problems and go to the same local clinic we go to --- so I'm thinking I'll load up the car tonight and head to the clinic after dinner. Otherwise there's one at the downtown clinic on Wednesday from 9 to 4. DH has an appointment for a physical at the local clinic on Wednesday, so I've stressed to him that he get one there.

Hopefully the lines aren't too long. Weather's supposed to get nasty this afternoon, so maybe that'll keep people from going out after dark.

Liza,

You should AUTOMATICALLY qualify for the flu shot because you LIVE WITH SOMEONE WHO IS IMMUNOCOMPRIMISED!!! That doesn't make any sense to me why your doc won't give you one. If you take in literature showing you should get one for that reason, would it help? If so, I'll see what I can dig up here at work.

Problem we've been having lately is getting past the receptionist desk. Seems as if the clerical workers are making health care decisions. Two years ago, I just went to a senior citizen center and got one. It was put by the health department and my MIL was getting her shot and mentioned me and they told us to come on down. Did get some odd looks though. Guess I didn't look like a senior citizen

Julie is right parents and family members (in the same household)
are suppose to be on the top of the flu list, or pretty close to
the top. You can pull that info the the NIH website or from the
local health department site. But I guess all the literature in the
world won't get you pass the highly qualified and all knowledgeable
