Flu Symptoms

So as my blog states...I am sick for the second time in a month and a half. My doctor thinks it might be swine flu, my mom doesnt think its flu. My symptoms are cough, fever (highest this AM was 101.6) and JOINT aches (but only knees and ankles). My doctor did prescribe Tamiflu, but since I just got off of Zyvox he said it probably wouldnt be a good idea to start it again.

My question to any of you..who have had the regular flu or the swine flu is

Is it wierd that the aches are only in those joints? My mom seems to think that I would be achy everywhere. I did get the flu shot back in the fall, so if I have regular flu my symptoms could be less severe, right? All day today, I have been taking Motrin. Before I took it I felt like crap, head ache, joint aches. An hour or so later I felt the fever break and the joint aches were gone. This was around 10:30...by 3:00 I felt the aches coming back and felt like crap again. I took my temp and it was only 99.7. But after I took the motrin I again felt the fever break. Anyone have any thoughts?

I'm sorry you're not feeling well..Did your doc swab you to test you for the flu? That would answer your question whether or not it's actually the flu or not. When our pediatricain suspected RSV or the flu he would do a nasal swab(not the most comfortable thing) I think results take 2 days, don;t quote me on that though. I hope it's not the flu; keep yourself as hydrated as you can.. Sorry I'm not sure about the joint aches; though sometimes I get achy from just a virus, especially if it causes fever.

Ditto with the swab. When DS was spiking a fewer last month while in the hospital, the tested him for that and I believe there's a fast test and then one that take a little longer.

We were told that because swine flu was going around our region, if DS was around anyone with symptoms and even develops just runny nose (cold symptoms) to put him on tamiflu just in case.

Sounds like it could be Lyme Disease. Do you have any neurological symptoms ranging from headaches to forgetfulness? I know you live in MA which isn't far from CT. It's an epidemic here and so sad because a lot of doctors won't treat it because the insurance co's won't pay them. There's no cure...and it's a man made disease so it's very difficult to treat. Google plum island to learn more about LD's beginning. You may need to pay out of pocket to get good testing/treatment for it.

Just read your post again and saw headache listed. Joint pain and achiness could definitely be a sign of LD coupled with headache I'd say it's a must to get tested. Don't delay the longer you wait the more difficult it is to treat and the more likely it will reside in you forever and be recurrent. The # one use of PICC lines in CT is for Lyme Disease. Common treatment when you discover a bullseye (only 70% of people infected get this) is 21 days of doxy. More advanced cases require IV abx.
