Flu vaccine?

The flu is much more contagious than a cold. The droplets can just hang in the air for hours. And although they guess at the bugs each year, they always include type A and B, and overall the shot is still very effective. My doctor also has me keep Tamaflu in the house which is for influenza type A and B. which only works if you take it early enough.(Don't know if it's for kids).

It can devastating if your child gets the flu as others have accurately descibed above. It's a virus and they can't do much if he or she gets it like they can for a bacterial infection. And flu cac lead to a bacterial infection on top of it all. Flu is specially dangerous for a young child who's immune sytem is still developing.

And as Rebjane mentioned, sensitive people or kids can get the vaccine over two doses. By the way it takes up to 4 weeks for the vaccine to reach full effecacy. So I'd have the whole family get the vaccine as soon as possible.

I didnt notice this was a double post so i will repeat what i said in the other one....
I've been getting the flu shot since i am in my early 20's. It must work to some extent since i havent had the flu since then that i can recall.
Yes it is a guessing game with which strain may show up this year, but i'd rather get the shot knowing that if the strain i am vaccinated against is out there ,than i am protected.

DS's first winter, there were several cases in where healthy children died from the flu. It started off being a nasty flu season and ds couldn't get his vaccine until he was 6 months old. I was terrified. I've always gotten the flu shot, dh got the flu about 10 years ago and was horribly ill for several weeks. For me, I noticed when I first started getting flu shots that I no longer got the annual upper respiratory infection/head cold in December and February. So I kinda feel it helped me ward off other viruses.

Last year one of my coworkers got influenza a and he developed pneumonia. He sat next to me and my husband during a meeting -- saying he had the chills, aches, pains, dreadful cough -- next morning he went to the doctor and found out he had the flu. So DS' doctor put me and DH on tamiflu. We already had a script for DS because one of his classmatese got influenza a as well.

We all get the vaccine, as do DS' grandparents, uncles, aunts & cousins.
