For the Men...

I am a woman so I wouldn't know the answer to this. I have been told by my CF docs that men born with CF are sterile. They in no way shape or form can make babies, is this true? I'm asking cause my brother has CF and there's a woman going around saying he's the daddy. Could he be? Is there a 1 in 1 million chance that he could be?

Thankx

A large % of CF men have what is referred to as Congenital Bilateral Absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD).

They still product sperm, but the tube which allows the sperm to travel from the testicals & out of the penis is missing.

Medical intervention is normally done with the men who want to father children & have this. We also have members who have fathered children with no medical intervention at all.

Here is a fantastic link to a site created by one of our members that might answer more ???? for you!

Men with CF can have children but 95% of men have "congenital absence of the vas defrens" which means that they produce sperm but can't transport it. Therefore if he is in the 5% it is possible. (Men can also get someone pregnant with IVF, but I don't think this pertains to your situation)
