Four pounds under the weight requirement

I think they calculated my BMI at like 16.8 and they want it to be at least 17. So close!

Thanks guys. I know I can gain enough in this month, it's just frustrating <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Happy holidays to all!

juliepie,
I this is off topic, but can you tell me anything about your fight against the m. abscessus? My son has this and went from 85% lung function to 58% in the last six months. We have been treating him for six months with IV amikacin and tagicyl, and with no improvement, only worsening.
Good luck with the weight gain. I hope you get listed soon!

What center are you listed at (if you don't mind sharing that). I listed at 80 pounds, 4'11' for my transplant. By the time I got by transplant I only weighed 78 lbs. I was doing tube feeds every night, but as far as eating real food, I was sporadic at best. It was uncomfortable and I was so sick that eating and breathing at the same time was just too tiring. I was happy if I ate one meal a day. After my transplant I dropped down to 72lbs.

It seems surprising to me that they would hold off on listing you until you gained weight. There is a rather large possibility that as time goes on, you are breathing more heavily and with any infections that come along you could lose more weight. I would fight them on this one as much as possible.

I can't imagine a transplant center turning you down for being 4 lbs under the weight limit.. amazing...

Anyway, I was about 92 lbs (I'm 5'5") when I was listed, and they immediately put a feeding tube in and I started on prednisone, which I'm sure helped. I was transplanted 9 months later and weighed about 102 I think. They did want me to gain some weight, but it didn't affect me being listed.

I hope you gain those 4 lbs. Good luck with everything.
