talking to both really. ask them about a partial. it *might* be enough to control the reflux. then again it might not be, but a total fundo isnt any guarantee either.

Whoops, the question does go both ways, doesn't it.

Anyway, thanks for the advice on the "partial". The Fundo not being a guarantee fix is another one of my worries. From my understanding they don't like doing the procedure a second time from what my son's surgeon said but will if need be. Also, from my understanding the Fundo can cause more bad then good. Just hoping for the good!!!!

To the original poster, sorry to hijack your thread there for a minute. If you like to know how everything goes please fell free to ask and best wishes with your decision.

Hi.
My son ,who is nine w/ CF, had a Nissan Fundoplication when he was 18 months old. He also had a g tube placed at the same time. The fundoplication had to be "revised" (read:repaired) about 13 months later, but since then, no problems. Recently he has been getting a little "breakthrough" reflux, though an upper GI study shows the wrap (or fundo) to be intact.
He also takes both Prilosec and Zantac to control stomach acid and Reglan to decrease stomach emptying time.
All this to let you know that there were no complications and the procedures have definitely benefitted him. He went from < 5% to 50% for weight and maintains it with plenty of supplementation from his g tube-bolus and overnight feeds. His height is also 50%.
He has plenty of issues with coughing and his lungs, but his nutrition and growth are well controlled and he is not aspirating or experiencing significant reflux or related problems.
I don't think they recommend the surgery lightly and we dragged our feet, trying all alternatives, but once it was done it did change his life for the better.
Good luck with the decision and good luck to those who have already made it!

This website has a lot of info. on the Fundo and also has a message board related to the Fundo. I might mention, the boards are pretty active as well.
