Fundoplication

Has anyone had any experience with the fundoplication surgery? I think this is spelled right...sorry if it is not. They have wanted Weston to have this surgery since May of last year. We decided to put it off so he could gain weight because at that time he was still failing to thrive. Well now he is at 50% and is coughing. We are told that the cough is not a "CF cough" but a "reflux cough". They are going to do another study to see what his reflux levels are.
I am conserned. Obviously I don't want him to have another surgery, and I am worried that this will decrease his appetite. I am happy that he eats so much and is chubby. I remember all to well the days of every other day weight checks. Can you share your experience?

My husband had this surgury a few years ago. He does not have CF but he had extremely bad reflux. It was wonderful for him. It took some "recovery" time but he is so much better now. He can eat anything now. I would just really research the doctor and go to one that is considered the best. It is a big surgury and you want to make sure all goes well.

My 6 month old son just had the surgery this past Thanksgiving. Briceton was aspirating into his lungs which caused pneumonia and a partial lung collapse. He also had GERD and numerous secondary sinus infections due to the severe reflux. We were advised to have the Nissan-Fundo mostly due to the aspiration. Almost two months later and the surgery was an absolute blessing. No more reflux, secondary infections, aspiration, or crankiness. Also, the coughing has tremendously gone down. Briceton is a total different baby now and is dong great post Fundo except for a little increase in gas and tummy bloating! If you would like to talk more or have any questions please fell free to contact me by PM or at sherrymartin@bellsout.net
