Diane, Isn't it great that we have this site to do research when we have these sort of new developments! This is what I knonw.
When I cultured aspergillus for the first time last spring I read a lot on here about it and what it does to people. Search Aspergillus and ABPA. Generally it seems to be true that people do not attribute any symptoms to the aspergillus unless they have ABPA (Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis). The medical community largely feels this way as well. When aspergillus is cultured a blood test to check igE levels is completed. Also some doctors do a chest Xray to check for fungal ball. I do not know much about fungal ball and I would discourage you from taking what you read on google too seriously because remember they are referring to this problem in the general public and like hemoptysis in the general population it is rare and a sign of ill health. For cf, things usually seem to have a less grave prognosis I find.
I do not have an elevated igE level so have not been diagnosed ABPA but will be monitored for it yearly for the rest of my life most likely. As I recall signs of ABPA are increased hemptysis, wheezing / bronchospasm and marked loss in FEV1. Do you have copies of your labs from your previous hospitalization? You may be able to find your igE level on there. Mine is around 83 I believe if I had ABPA I'd see an increase to something like 500. Again this isn't scientific this is what I remember. Check back on previous posts.
Stay positive and keep us posted.
By the way, I started L-Lysine for my hemoptysis and have seen some changes in the right direction dimishing my very small bleeds.
Thanks!
