G-Tube stinks!

I had a g-tube placed 3 months ago. I'm very happy with the decision and wish I had done it 12 years ago like my doctor wanted. My only complaint (other than its sheer size) is its offensive odor. My fiance has an extremely sensitive nose, and this smell has basically killed our sex life. Even wearing thick clothing doesn't seem to hide it. Does anyone have any tricks for masking the odor? Or, is this unusual? I'm going to have the long tube replaced with a MicKey button in December. Will that help?

My son never had the stinking problem when he had the long tube, but I have heard you can pour some coke down the tube to clean it out. It sort of eats away at the residue that is in the tube. Also make sure you flush it with water after every tube feed. Is the site healed well? That might cause an odor if it has an infection or is oozing. Other than that I don't know what would be making it smell.

Occasionally I get an odor around my button (had it with my tube as well) but that's only if it leaks the formula out a little. I hate the smell of the formula, but no one else can really smell it but me. I found that if I wear a little bit of gauze around the site, it catches some of the leaking and helps with the smell, as long as you change the gauze frequently. I've also used the coke done the tube and that did wonders for the overall look of the tube, but can't remember if it helped with the smell... I would figure out where the smell is coming from (tube vs. site) and then go from there. I would have the doctor check it out just in case though <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Best of luck!

I love the coke idea. I've been wondering how to clean it out properly. I flush with water and massage it after each use, but that doesn't get everything out. I'm also battling granulation tissue around the site, which could be contributing. Thanks for the input!
