Getting a G-tube

My name is Anika. I have cystic fibrosis and I am 19.
Over the last few years I have been having severe digestive issues due to my CF lungs getting worse and my digestive issues getting worse.

I was unable to eat sold foods becuase my all my digestive issues and worse lung diease. Also I did not want to eat at all. So my doctor started me on NG-feedings to see how that would work. At first I did not do well with it. So we started to think I would need TPN (being feed thru my bloodstream) But I knew that if worked with the tube-feeding and tryed different kinds of tube-feeding food that soon it would work for me. And it did!

I am on a tube-feeding dieit. And it has worked out so well. I use Peptmen and Nutrun. I have grown from 5,3 to 5,5 1/2... It is so cool!
On Sundays my mom and I have a eat gunk food day.. On that day I can have one kind of food I really want. And then I get sick in my tummy but for that day only it's all about the tast.

This summer I am getting a Mic-key tube. So I won't have to have an NG anymore! That I am happy for.
There are some things about tube-feeding I do not like but there is allot more good things then bad about my tube-feeding.

So If any of you cfers are thinking about starting tube-feeding I would at last try it and see how you do with it before you get a G-tube. But if it works I would do it!

Anika, I agree that tube feeds are a huge benefit to those who have trouble gaining weight. My sons have had theirs for 3 years and have seen dramatic results. We were not given the option of NG feedings so I don't have the experience with that.

Sounds like you and your mom have a fun Sunday. I'd love that (although my butt wouldn't<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">)

My daughter got hers at five months and it was the best decision. She is a very slow weight gainer, so with out the tube I am sure that she wouldn't be here. She also has double DF508
