My husband and i would like to get involved with something that
supports cf. We also want zoey to be involved too.Maybe a walk or
something or a fundraiser? We live in Texas so if you know of
anything please let me know......Thanx sarah
I was a poster child for the CFF when I was young, from the time I was 3ish until I was about 8 or 9. Went to all the fundraisers, cut ribbons and stuff, was in pictures, flyers, all sorts of neat crap.
Doing the GREAT STRIDES walk for CF in May is always a good way to feel like you are a part of the CF community. We started when Josh was diagnosed (2 months), so this was our 15th year! We have a team so family and friends can walk and raise money. I've met tons of other families in my area which is good for support.
I guess it depends on what type of impact you want & how private you are about the whole issue. When I was dx my Mom did Penny Socials in our home town. It was a great money raiser considering the small town, but most importantly it got the word out about CF. We had our local paper run our pics & do an article etc. I have also done the Great Strides. My goal is not as much "cure" oriented as "awareness" both in the illness itself, but in the chance of being an unknowing carrier!
There's the tower of america's climb held in san antonio every year, held by the CFF (pretty sure about that one anyway).
Plus numerous Great Strides events, I know there's also a golf event or two.

I hosted Burke last summer and it was really neat. And the local paper did a story on Burke's tour, CF and me. So it was great for awareness. And since a lot of people bought bears, it raised money too!
