Getting IV's Through Port Need Help

Hey Capi,

I have had my port in for six years. The same spot has been poked so many times I can barely feel it anymore. I de-access it myself which is super convenient, and my husband re-accesses it. Sorry about the showers and swimming. I can relate because that is what I hate very most about I.V.s is not being able to take a shower everyday!!!! I HATE taping that thing up. I never really feel that clean. For showering I use something called Aqua Guard and tons or orange tape. I hated PICCS, so for me I love having a port. I hope it gets easier for you.

I got a port Nov 2006. I love it. I access the port myself and I never do it without the numbing cream! It helps significantly and I hardly feel the prick when I insert the needle. My Dr gave me the RX for the cream and it works wonders!

The nurse continued to blow me off. I told my wife that for some reason I had the feeling she did not want to do it.

She showed up today after two days with a another nurse and admited to me that she had never done a port and was told it was to flush a pick line two days ago.

They did not use any cream but it did not hurt. First IV's went in and now my wife and I are going to try and figure out how to cover this thing and my pick line.

I actually look pretty freaky with two lines coming out of me.
