This year has my been worst ever. I have been fairly healthy and have never been a good patient only going to the doctor when im not feeling well but this year i was hospitalized two X first at the end of feb for about a week for pneumonia and then i went home on IV antiobiotics then again after being them about 2 weeks i was fine for 1.5 and I get sick again im coughing up blood and short of breath again so ended up back in the hospital and then they said they found a fungus ball in my lungs and gave me vfed(viconazole)but it does not seem to be working and i staretd coughing up blood again. Im just soooo tired of this and havent even told the DR about the blood again because i dont feel bad its just that i cough up blood 1-2 x a day and all i can hear the DR saying is u gotta back in the hospital and I am not going again. I just dont want to be bothered

I understand your frustration & denial. I really do!

I have years that I am in the hospital or on home iv's constantly & other years where its a breeze. There is no way to know what to expect.

I know you dont want to hear this because you know what needs to be done, BUT since you came here I am going to tell you <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

You need to contact your doctor. The bleeds & fungus ball are nothing to mess around with. We have enough problems keeping bacteria at bay. Now throw fungus into the works & you have a terrible cocktail of trouble.

I have a daughter who falls apart when I go in, but I do it because in the long run its whats better.

For years I didnt contact the doctors every time I should have. Just like I wasnt compliant with my care like I should have been.

I dont have that luxury anymore. Now when things are off....I call!

I hope things work out ok for ya!

I can certainly relate to what you are going thru becaue i went thru it myself. I have had 3 embolizations due to coughing up blood, but the last one i had in Oct.2006 is the one that probably saved me from a lot of trouble that we didnt even know was brewing. I coughed up blood one morning and went to the ER to be admitted in the hospital where my cf Dr. is. The intervention radiologist came in to talk to me about my bleeds and said he wanted to go in and have a look around (in my lungs) and see if he saw anything that needed embolizing. He ordered a cat scan the night before the procedure and sure enough it showed a fungus ball. It actually showed several, but they were really only concerned with the one that was the biggest which is in my left lung. Its about the size of a plum. They tried Itraconazole, but that didnt work at all to help shrink it, so they switched me to Voriconazole ( Vfend) and that has kept it at bay. A fungus ball itself can cause you to cough up blood, along with other odd symptoms. I had a cough that would start with an itch in my throat that would go on for 5 - 10 minutes straight and nothing helped till the itch would stop .I would wake up at night coughing, and i was coughing up a lot of really thin mucus which is abnormal for me. I usually dont cough up as much as i was before we started treating the fungus ball. It took a few months for the vfend to actually help with the bleeds . I do not get them as often as i used to THANK GOD. I read a lot on the internet about fungus balls(aspergilloma's) and from what i gather, once they are here we may be stuck with them.
My advice to you is, you need to keep your Dr. aware of the bleeds. If it continues to be often you may need an embolization to help with the bleeding.
I know what you mean about not wanting to be bothered ....I think we all feel the same way at one time or another, but when it comes to bleeding you need to take that a bit more seriously. Are you on Vit K.?
Also what bugs do you culture?
