Getting the CF Foundation to Fund a Project

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I want to build a chopper and try to raffle it for the CF foundation.

This is unlike any other chopper and way better than what the OCC's boys or Athena have ever built. But would like to see if I can get funding to build it and then all the proceeds of the raffle would go to the CF Foundation. It would be the first CF bike if one hasn't been built yet for CF.

In a nut shell. I own a custom fabrication shop. We have built many chopper and bikes in our shop over the years.

We built a bike two years ago that has come out in the Discovery Channel, in the Spanish Channel Telemundo and in a few Magazines.

This is a chopper unlike any other and since its unlike any other we even used a Kawasaki engine instead of the typical Harley.

My bike is called "Last Act of Deviance" but the CF bike if I can build it would be called something else or we could keep the name. I would also paint it CF colors and change the red.

Attached is a video I posted up on YouTube a while back. Read the comments and you will see why its different than any other.

Oh the buy it now in the end of the ad, was when we thought of selling it but after several people wanting to buy it with the condition we would sell them the plans on the build I decided not to make any of them. Just haven't had the time to pull the ending out.

Here is the bad part. The bike would cost about $25k to build. I would like to raffle it for about six to nine months all over the country and sell tickets at $20. It would be roughly 2300 ticket for them to get about $45 back.

Anyway if anyone thinks this is something I should proceed with or not let me know. If you think I am nuts and will need my nebulizer while building another one of these probably.

Oh, Most important if you have someones email I can contact about this even better.

Hi there.
I used to work for the CFF as a Director of Special Events, so I kind of know the ins and outs of things at the Foundation. I will be truthful with you. The Foundation does not typically fund projects like this. From time to time, if a family comes up with a great event idea, they will give support in the form of staff for the evening, the use of supplies like auction boards, etc, but not funding. Only once one of these "community" events has shown itself to be successful for a year or two would they put it on their budget and pay the upfront costs for it.

I admire your passion to support the Foundation, but just in running the numbers, you would have to sell $1,250 tickets just to break even on the cost. The Foundation would wonder where these ticket sales are coming from. In general, they like to double their money. So, for instance, if the cost per head at a black tie is $80, they like you to start your ticket price at $160.

I can answer more questions for you if you have them. If you talk with them and they are willing to do this, I would love to hear how it goes and learn from you!

I would start by contacting your local chapter. They will need to stand behind you and be willing to put it on their chapter budget. This is actually a good time to talk to them about next year's budget, as they will start working on it soon.

Hope this helps a little!

Thanks Tonya for your help.

I go to a lot of bike shows and every time I take this bike its an instant hit.

Recently we took her to a the Leesburg Bike Fest and we had all the Harley guys and pretty much the entire crowd all over it and we won several awards.

All the times I do these events, there is always two or three different choppers being raffled of for different Foundations.

The Cancer foundation without a doubt is always there and you see people lined up to buy a $20 ticket in hopes that they will win the bike.

They never raffle the bikes at the event as they take the bikes to many events around the country and make three to four times the cost of the bike before they actually announce the winner.

My wife and usually end up buying a ticket simply to help the Cancer Foundation not really thinking we are going to win a $45k plus dollar bike.

But this made me wonder, most people buy these tickets in hopes to win and also to help. What if for the first time they would see CF being represented.

If I was the typical person who always buys a ticket for the Cancer or Aids Foundation to help them out and maybe win a bike and I see the CF Foundation with a bike I would probably donate my $20 to CF as its something new from my typical donation.

Also, It would bring awareness to most who do not know about CF.
