ok so i read that there are two horomones that are released from your pancreas that help break down and obsorb sugars in your body. here's my question if i'm pancreatic insuffienct how am i supposed to pass the glucose tolerance test? it is kinda crazy to me so i'm confused. i also read that stress can have an effect on how your body absorbs sugars. and right now my stress level is above my height. has anyone noticed that their sugars are worse when they are stressed? i also want to add that drinking the drink is so gross, but i don't feel jittery at all and my hands are steady.

Dan my DS with CF and CFRD is 19. When he gets really stressed his sugars run really high. Also if he's fighting an infection will run high. When he was in the hospital this last time they gave him an oral steroid that make it go through the roof.

Candice,

I have been pancreatic insufficient for years and years. I must take enzymes with almost every single thing that I put into my body. However, I still produce enough insulin. I have been a 'borderline diabetic' for about 5 years now and only have to watch my intake of carbs. I always FAIL my 2-hour glucose test yet PASS my A1C. For this reason, I am monitored yearly for changes and only watch my intake.

My sister also has CF and is pancreatic insufficient. However, she also been a diabetic since the age of 9! She has needed daily insulin shots for many years now.

So it is POSSIBLE to produce enough enzymes yet not enough insulin. My doctor has said for years that I will become a diabetic someday. Thankfully, that hasn't happened yet, and I'm 26. Even to be diagnosed with diabetes at age 26 is far better than 9, like my sister!!!

What I can tell you is that illness, extreme fatigue, dehydration, and exercise can impact your blood sugar levels. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be too concerned yet. You are doing a lot since your hubby isn't helping much. (I remember reading that in your blog, I think.) I'm sure things will balance out - just give it time. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
