Has anyone ever deducted gym membership fees?

No, you'd need to talk to your employer's benefits coordinator or your husband's benefits department to see if it's offered. The fact that you haven't ever heard of it isn't a good sign ~ not all companies offer it. Do look into it though, it's worth a shot.

I appreciate the info. My husband works for the sante fe railway so we have excellent benefits, but to be honest with you, I would'nt be surprised if they did offer it. Everything with the railroad is so hush hush, the less info they give the happier they are. LOL. I'm defintaly going to check up on it.

Hey,

Does this FSA and HSA have anything to do with original gym fee deduction question? I'm getting confused now! lol... I dont' have an FSA or HSA through husband's employer (or mine... not employed), and I pay my gym fees each month out of my checking account. Just wondering how the FSA discussion factors in and if I need to be questioning this or what? Sorry, I"m confused.

Julie,
Thanks for getting back to me!!

The only way it would factor in is if you have an FSA or HSA and were deducting your gym membership through this account. You can't deduct the same expense twice. Therefore you wouldn't be able to take it as a tax deduction but since you don't have one then there's no conflict there for you. That's why it was brought up and then Alessia was interested in finding out about it and the discussion began.

I think you can only do the deduction if the gym is one that doubles as a physio rehab facility. Other than that, no deduction.

Ladybug, I'm curious about the air quality in your city. Where do you live?

Las Vegas... there are blowing dust advisories or particulate matter advisories or carbon dioxide advisories every other day or so. One would think the air quality would be better in this city. We used to live in San Antonio and the air quality was better, even with the higher population and pollution... however, the dust here is a MAJOR problem. I don't do activities outside very often at all if I can avoid it. Its terrible.
