Hi Diane,
I remember having a "sed" rate test when I first exhibited signs of CF when I was 21. I remember the nurse told the doctor the rate "was off and running..." I remember a number around 80 and I was feeling pretty terrible at the time. Then I do remember them telling me that although it went back down, people with chronic infection frequently have it elevated.
You are having some fevers so they're just checking things out, but you don't have to panic.
I know that with myself, from time to time, I'd have some weird level of something show up in a blood test. I've had doctors send me to all kinds of specialists with some overall ominous tone in their voice. But what I learned from every specialist I've seen: when they find out you have a chronic condition, and if you're feeling pretty okay, it's part of the chronic inflammation. Your metabolism gets out of whack. Not a scientific explanation. But true.
The Sed rate is not the greatest test because it's non-specific. The inflammation could be anywhere. Or drugs could raise it too. I read that fungal infections such as Aspergellis can really raise the rate. And you said you have fungus. But you could have something as mild as gingivitis and the rate can be high.
I know that taking anti-inflammatories creates a quandrey when you have hempotysis. I take the usual Fish Oil and some other things that can thin the blood and I stop them if I ever have bleeding. A supplement that doesn't bother me Is Tumeric capsules, a really great anti-inflammatory that is in Phase II testing.
Another thing you can check is your Vitamin D level. It is an essential anti-inflammatory, but without the blood thinning qualities. I asked the doctor to check it and was shocked at how horribly low it was. This is very common and getting it up to a normal level can make a big difference.
I also like Glucosomine Condroitin MSM for joint pains. It works great for me. It doesn't cause bleeding. If I have real hympotysis I stop all supplements until it stops. Then reintroduce things back slowly.
I used to have terrible joint pains, but not now. A therapist told me to drink a lot because the joints are made up of water, and I find drinking water helps. Also exercise is amazing. Muscles get stronger and take the stress of the joints. I'm sure you take probiotics.
Good luck with your doctor visist.
