Having trouble falling asleep

I'm thinking dust mites too. Funny, I've had the same problem and its been about the last month too. I got the pillow covers and I think they've helped. I also have to put the dog out right before bedtime like you. Maybe part of it is since its been the last month that its really gotten cold, that going out right before bed is agitating you. I think thats what was doing it for me. My hubby takes the dog out now.
I think I have more asthma like issues than 'thick mucus' cf type issues. But I take Pulmocort before bed and it seems to help.

hey jennifer,

i think the dust mite thing is a good possibility. best to get at the bottom of whatever is setting you off. have you thought about seeing an allergy doctor? that might help you. in the meantime, have you considered using a humidifier? might help some.

good luck!

laura is right - an allergist is a great idea.

make sure you get a full panel skin test (should take over 6 hours each day for 2 days). do not get the blood IgE test...it will tell you nothing.

and to all you who are sick me of mentioning Warwick - this one's for you.... Warwick thinks that upwards of 40% of CF patients also have allergies that are untreated and exacerbate their CF.

I definately know how you feel. It's best to go to ur doctor and sort it out though. I myself take Advair and it works wonders! As well as taking that i'm also on Singular which helps stop wheezing and coughing at night, and it works. The cold weather though i find, regardless of how strict i am with taking my meds, can make me crackly which is annoying. Sometimes you can't pinpoint it and it doesn't matter what you do it just won't stop and it's very annoying!!!!

So yes, see an allergist and doctor to get it sorted out, as well get covers for your mattresses and pillows. Have you got an asthmatic pillow? I do and i love it. It's definately something you should have if you've got asthma (they're nice and comfy too!) Also, clean your bedding more often to elminate pet dander. I have pets too and it's near impossible to NOT have fur, but i don't let them in my room and that seems to help!!!

Sorry for the mouthful!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR RESPONSES!

I do need to get the dust mite covers & matress pads. I don't have them and should. I am faithful with the cleaning of them with hot water every 7 days. No, I didn't consider a humidifier but that would be a good idea. I use to work for an asthma and allergist. He did a scratch test and Interdermal skin test on me. I did have some mild allergies to dust mites amd grass now that I think of it. That was probably 4 years ago. I should get retested. Thank you again.
