Having trouble with my therapies

Ever since my pregnancy began I find myself easily gagging at everything-even the smell of dog food. Even my own food occasionally. I'm not throwing up, just nauseous and then there's this gagging thing.
The problem I'm having is when I do my therapies, and esp during hyp saline I am gagging so much from the coughing. And I'm also sensitive to smells-this may sound gross, but I've never been bothered at all by my sputum. I keep it in a cup during pt to keep track of how much I get up, and each time I go to spit in the cup I gag from the smell of my own sputum.
Its making me dread doing my therapies every day, and I'm so nauseous by the time its over. It sucks. But I know I have to do it.
Anyone deal with this gagging thing from coughing and have any tricks? I thought maye this could happen to kids easily too, so maybe some of you moms out there have some tricks too.

Maybe you could think about altering your routine for a month or so to get through this nausea phase. Like, stop saving and measuring the sputum for awhile. It won't make or break your cf anyway, and it will remove one of the gag factors. Just cough into a kleenex and throw it right in the trash. No smell,no nausea. Maybe you could do the HS in two settings instead of one - cut down on the amount of coughing at each setting, which might reduce the gagging. I can't imagine it's healthy to be gagging all the time. Fortunately, since it would appear to be related to your preganancy, it shouldn't last too long, although I know that's not much comfort when you're in the middle of it!

Best wishes.

no advice I am afraid. My gagging refelx went into overdrive during my pregnancy and I vomited many-a-time from coughing - smells didn't bother me so much, but coughing set me gagging. Hang n there, hopefully by second trimester smells won't bother you so badly.

I have been told that Lemonaide is a womens best friend in the beginning stages of pregnacy.. Also ginger.. that may help ..

I would for sure get rid of the spit cup.... at least for now..

Ginger definately helps calm your stomach, but if smells bother you, there's not much that helps that. I had it too. It does go away after a few months.

The bread aisle in the supermarket use to make me sick. Also, roasted turkey. weird.

My kids gag all the time but especially when they have sinus drip. Have you tried a nasal rinse or saline spray?

Sorry its nasty for you, but it will go away soon.

I don't have CF but the mother of a two year old CFer. I am also 9 weeks pregnant and can sympathisize with your gagging reflex. I feel nauseous all the time and want to throw up but can't. I fell bad that you have to deal with all the therapies on top of it, that must suck.

Have hope that it USUALLY ends around 12 weeks.
