head cold and it's aftermath

I've just gotten over a super harsh headcold. At its worst, I thought I had pneumonia, but my doc said it just sounded like a cold. Anyway, I don't remember the last time I actually had just a headcold with sneezing, coughing, stuffy nose, the whole package, and now that I'm getting over it, I'm noticing that I have more mucus than I have ever had after a cold. I mean, when I start wheezing, my coughs produce a lot of junk...it's all thin and clear so I know there's nothing brewing in my lungs...I'm just amazed. Same thing with my sinuses...they aren't stuffy anymore and they aren't achey but I find myself having to blow my nose A LOT...way more than when I had the headcold. Does this happen to any of you guys?

I know when I'm getting over something it seems like all the slime gets thinner and easier to move and then I start coughing up all kinds of nasty stuff not to mention what comes out of my nose!

That has happened to me too. When I get a cold that bad i double up on percussion treatments. You gotta hammer that stuff out of you so that it does not weigh you down. It eventually gets worked out, but it sure does suck until it is gone. Like I have to tell you that!

I usually get an exacerbation of my CF after a cold. The gunk in my lungs is dark yellow or light green.

For me (and this varies widely with CF patients) my PA decides to grow like a weed while my body is fighting a virus. So I usually need antibiotics.

It's a bummer.

I got a cold last Monday and I was sneezing, blowing my nose and coughing constantly, but just like you, I was coughing up clear stuff (or nothing at all). Then around Saturday it started getting yellow, and now it's dark yellow. I guess it turned itself right into a lovely infection. Right after I just finished 3 weeks of IV's, sigh. Colds suck!

I can only think of one time this year where I had a head cold that never turned into a chest infection. Mind you I did cough a lot of mucus up, but it was white and clear. Usually all headcolds turn into chest infections for me.
