It can come from any number of things - from anxiety to sepsis.
Really need to have it checked out by a doctor -- and probably with an EKG.

I just went through this myself. I would have one every 30 seconds or so for a couple hours and then they would stop for a couple hours. I was on iv antibiotics, however, I have been on the medications before and they have never done this. I went to the ER and my ECG was fine but they did a 24 hour holter monitor that showed I was having PVC's (premature ventricle contractions). I had 1,328 of them in 24 hours with one coupler (which I believe means two together). I went to a cardiologist last friday and he has me going for an Echocardiogram tomorrow and a stress test on Friday. He said a lot of people have PVC's and are healthy but the only way to know for sure is to get the testing done. I was actually supposed to have the stress test done tomorrow, but I have come down with a cold so I rescheduled. I didn't think I could handle it being sick.

Anyway, when you are dealing with your heart, it wouldn't hurt to get it checked out.

Oh, and by the way, I was having them very frequently for about 2 weeks; my husband had mentioned to me about that maybe the splenda I was using was causing it. I looked it up on the internet, and I did find some people who said splenda was causing PVC's. I stopped the splenda and about 5 days later now, they have stopped. I don't know if it was truly the splenda or just chance but if you use anything like that, you may want to stop.

Alot of things can cause this I would have him see a doc about it to get more in depth answers.

I know for me BEFORE I was diagnosed with diabetes I would have frequent heart palpitations when my sugar was raging high. I would be sitting and feel fine and just start gasping for breathe out of nowhere cause my heart was racing so fast.

I had a few years ago an episode that landed me in the ER and I had something more closely to what your husband may be experiencing. I literally felt like I was having a heart attack. I went to the ER and they ran a TON of tests on me and discovered that the only abnormality that they could find was my potassium level was low.

Otherwise I had that pre transplant and it ended up being related to my having pulmonary hypertension (which is basically hypertension in the pulmonary artery cause by my crappy lungs).

Post transplant I have this on occasion and it has been because of meds at first and then because of my thyroid.

I will also add that I had the heart issue with the PICC as well - but when the line was in just a little to far. It actually made me feel sick, lightheaded and all that. My mom said that I turned greenish looking and that was in high school. They xrayed my chest to see the line and it was in my heart and preventing the valves from closing completely. With that they pulled the line back and it went away.
