Heart Palpitations

Hello:

I have heart palpatations all the time. Racing heart. It doesn't last long and I try to use controlled breathing and relaxation techniques to come out of them. It always seems to work. I did have the work up too. The Monitor for 24 hours and found that I did have PVc's as well.

I'm 48 and overall feel good. So when it happens now I just figure it will pass and it does. It seems scary at first. It may have to do with the Diabetes or CF so I continue once a year to monitor my heart. That is good heart health. ( Echocardiogram ).

Best regards.

So my husband finally decided to go in to get checked out...what should he insist that they do test wise? He is afraid that he will go in, they will do an EKG and not see the flutter and send him home. Thanks!

If they do an EKG and they see nothing have him ask to see if he can get an event monitor. If you notice it happens only every few days or something tell them that. Say it comes and goes and you think an event monitor may help pinpoint the problem.

With an event monitor you can have them for 30 days and it is like a phone or something like that. When he has an "episode" he would hold the thingy to his chest and it would record the episode and then he would just call them and let them know and they would tell him what to do from there.

I had a hard time when I was having palpitations because they had me do the EKGs and such and unless it is happening right then you don't see a problem. Same thing with the 24 hr holter monitor. I wore it but nothing happened in the 24 hours I had it on. I just so happened to be in rehab one day post transplant and had it happen - they hooked me up to a machine then and there and got some information but not enough to make a conclusive decision about what was going on. We talked about the event monitor but the palpitations went away once I started taking thyroid medicine - so we have contributed it to that and have laid it to the side for now.

Good Luck with the tests they run. I hope you guys are able to find out what the problem is.
