who here has heart problems??? im thinking about getting mine checked out. what was just the odd flutter here and there has now turned into frequent flutters and now when my heart rate goes up i feel REALLY ill, like im going to throw up and pass out. its as if my heart cant handle going fast anymore. this has only happened since ive got the new port in. i had an xray to see if it was in the right position and it was so perhaps it was just the stress of surgery that has done this. if thats the case what will happen the next time i have surgery? i think its best to get it checked out so im going to see my gp.

hey Kylie,

good luck at the quacks I hope they find out whats causing your heart flutters, while you're there get them to check your potassium levels, I was recently talking to a friend whos waiting on lungs, he was having trouble with high potassium levels and it was effecting his heart.....prolly no connection, but worth getting a blood test to make sure..

hope ya feeling better soon!

I have some heart issues, high blood pressure, angina, and small vessel disease... mostly from all the steroids I take. My heartrate always goes up high when I cough, and makes me feel sick as well. I take three blood pressure meds to help me keep my blood pressure and heart rate down... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't

You should get it checked out for sure,

Jennifer

Kylie,

sounds like you may be having a condition caused atrial fibrilation. It does has some potential to be dangerous but can be controlled with medicine. You shoould get it checked out ASAP. Until then maybe consider taking an aspirin a day to prevent the major risk of a blod clot....so long as your lungs aren't "bleeders" like many of us.

I hope you can find out what's up and that's it's no big deal. I noticed lately that every night while I'm falling asleep my heart kinda flutters too and it feels like it skips a beat.

This is new to me, though a few years ago my heart was doing weird things like strange beats, and something tragic had happened in my life around then-and the docs said they were panic attacks. This doesn't feel like that. This is kinda scaring me too. Let me know what your doc says Kybert-I'd be interested to hear it. And I hope you're ok.

If anyone has ever had anything like this also-speak up!

Hi...my port line is too long and actually goes too far into my heart. It tickles the side of my heart and causes heart palpitations when I am in a certain position. I have been told by 3 cardiologists that it is fine and actually can't hurt anything.....we'll see about that Maybe that is what is wrong with yours. have them throw you under trhe floroscope and see if that is the case with your line.

I dont understand how this could happen. The people that have put my picc lines in (2 different groups) always took xrays to make sure it was in a safe place. I personally would be nervous just because of the meds that go thru it!

i have SVT- supraventricular tachycardia- basically it makes your heart "palpitate" - or go really fast-
sometimes it happens for 20 minutes (rarely, and that sucks) someimtes for 1-2 seconds, and then it "skips back into place"--or thats what it feels like.
look it up and see if it might be what you think you have
if you do- its not bad....so dont worry.

Hi Ky, I have SVT as well, have had it since my early 20's (I am 34), I am medically controlled as far as that goes. It can be a scary sensation, basically feels like butterflies flying loose in my chest. To stop it, I sometimes would drink ice cold water, bear down (vasal vagal) and if that didn't do it, off to the ER I would go so that they would give me IV drugs to stop the arrythmias. When you go to your docs, ask for a 24 hour holter monitor, it is basically a portable EKG that monitors your rhythm for 24 hours. You carry a diary, write down all of your activities so that the cardio can correlate your activities with any arrythmias if they are present. It also tells the doc what kind of arrythmias you are suffering, it isn't uncommon for people to have what are called PVC's or premature ventricular contractions, they feel like an occassional skip, alot of docs consider 7 or less a minute are non pathological. But, if you are having a run of them, they can be of concern...your doc will be the best judgment of that. Other arrythmias might include atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter...they can feel like butterflies in your chest too. That is why it is so important to get this checked out....could be anything and any cause. (Ol' ICU nurse in me talking)
Much luck and thinking of you...Jenn
