As the world knows I am out on disabilty.. I was not able to take a leave on the FMLA because I didn't work enough hours for that so I am out on a personal leave.. I get three months.. My leave is up Nov 12.. then my job autumatically terminates.. They said I could reapply for a different position when I was ready to come back.. which after my surgery should be right around that time give or take a few weeks..

My question is.. I asked them how my CF plays a role into this because I have CF and am protected under the ADA act... Problem is neither them nor myself know how I am protected....

Since you guys are so good at google and stuff.. Do you have any ideas? I really don't want to lose my job at all

Help if you can...
Thanks

Jennifer

They cover any reasonable accomodation. IF you need water with you, or a snack break for example. We never needed it, because Ry's employers were basically like "Okay, whatever." But it can also apply if you need to have treatmetns at work, or something like that. Hope this helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Google Beth Sufian and find out her contact information. SHe is a lawyer out of Texas that specializes in CF Disability cases and she has CF. She has a hotline that you can ask all kinds of disability questions and medicare questions. You can also find her at the CF ROundtable online.

Hope that helps

I believe Beth Sufian did a web cast on the CFF site that talked a lot about this kind of stuff. If you get a chance you should look into that. But if I remember correctly, once you have used your eligible time off, you don't get anymore just because of CF. But watch the web cast, there might be something of help for you in it.

Don't forget when you talk to Beth to mention ALL of the things you have been dealing with.
Cystic fibrosis is a multisystem disability -- not just a pulmonary disability. And, of course, people can have other nonrelated disabling conditions.

Reasonable accommodation can include a lot of things for lots of different people. Ability to eat at regular times or "as needed" for for folks with diabtes for example (and in the olden days access to a fridge). I know one place that turned up an office with a private bathroom for someone undergoing chemo (rather than the VP who might otherwise have gtotten it.)

Thanks Guys.

My CF social worker called me today and I just blurted out every frustration I have to her.. Frustrations about my doctors, about my care, about my job etc.. I just really didn't hold anything back.. ( very unlike me) Within two minutes my CF doctor was on the phone calling me.. I kind of feel bad but I am so overwhelmed and no one is helping me....

My social worker told me she was going to call Beth herself and look into certain options for me.. I only have 12 weeks and I have used 4. I have 8 weeks till my job terminates.. Human resources told me today that under very unusal circumstances sometimes they can hold the job a week or two more but that is it.

I guess I will see what happens...

Thanks again for your help,

Jennifer
