I had my gall bladder out several years ago. I started having attacks in January and the pain just took my breath away. They continued about once or twice a month and I saw a dr. several times but the dumb people thought it was my heart and everything else but gall bladder. But nothing checked out. Then in Sept or Oct. when I had one my husband took me back in to the drs and I saw a different one. This one right away said "Gall bladder", sent me for tests and I had several stones. So I had the gallbladder attacks for about 10 mos. before having it removed!!!

I dont remmeber where exactly my pain was so I better not comment on that part, sounds like you got good advice already. I had my gallbladder removed and it was very painful for months before that but sicne they didnt think it was my gallbladder they were holding me off for the 'real' surgical needs. they did
find gallstones that they couldnt see on any test. SO, I am saying all this to tell you that if you are feeling this pain stick to your guns and get them to figure it out. From what I thought I have heard the micro gall bladders (atrophied) no longer hurt or cause problems but if yours is still functioning it surely can. Either way I would get it checked out if it continues.

Please go to the E.R. I nearly died due to a septic infection which came about because I left gallbladder pain untreated. I'd already had my gallbladder removed, but I had a blockage in my bile duct. I didn't want to go to the ER, it was a long weekend, the same thing you described. I ended up on a vent and sustained permanent lung damage (which we as CFers cannot afford). I don't mean to scare you, but if the pain is that excruciating, the risk of catching something in the ER seems less important. If you have an obstruction like Lauren described, that also needs immediate attention.

If you go to the ER, ask for mask when you check in. That will help protect you from breathing in any icky ER "bugs". Also the ER people aren't going to be as familiar with the specifics of CF (as I'm sure you know) so if you do go, really be aggressive in demanding treatment. You know your body better than anyone. Don't ignore it when it's telling you something isn't right.

I hope you find the source of the pain soon and get it treated properly. Best of luck to you.

I agree with everyone else... get it checked. "If" it is your gall bladder you don't want to to go unchecked. I ended up with an infection in my pancreas due to my gall bladder. On IV drugs for 24 hours before surgery so that the infection would be under control to some degree. Had a bowel obstruction once---NOT FUN! Painful!!
