I just don't see the need for medication if she is healthy, and isn't sick with an active chest infection. In my experience docs like to push meds quite frequently, and I would hate to see your daughter build up a resistance to Cipro, when she doesn't really need it. Like I've said - if its been 26 months, and she still shows Pseudo, that means its colonized, and she won't get rid of it. No matter how much Cipro she takes, the Pseudo will not go away. I'm only ever on Cipro when I've got an active chest infection. And when I've not got a chest infection, I'm not on anything even though my cultures show Pseudo, because the docs know that the PA is a bacteria that is present in my cultures majority of the time. Like I've said before - PA can go "dormate" - where it goes to sleep, and doesn't show itself sometimes. The same goes for tuneups. I don't understand why docs like to put kids in hospital on IVs when they are not sick. Would you send your car in for a tuneup if it ran perfectly fine?

DS cultured pseudo and was on tobi for about a year. Around the same timeframe he always had a nasty boogery nose. His local doctors didn't seem to concerned but his CF doctor said he wanted him to get rid of it 'cuz it could go into his lungs, and put him on augmentin for 1 month. I'd just assumed the boogery nose was one of those icky toddler things they seem to have all winter long. Anyway, I suspect that DS had pseudo growing in his sinuses 'cuz he never really has a cough.

Antibiotics don't really do anything for you, unless you've got an active chest infection. My doc won't put me on something for a runny nose, because a runny nose does not always turn into a chest infection. Once I start with a productive cough - then its Cipro for me.

You can eradicate Pseudo if it doesn't colonize. Once its colonized you can't get rid of it. Hence, her sputum will more likely usually show Pseudo unless it goes dormate for awhile. If your doc puts your daughter on Cipro to try and get rid of PA, and she's already colonized, then he may as well have her on Cipro for the rest of her life non stop. This means she will become resistant to Cipro.

The only preventative antibiotic that I've been on is TOBI, and that was one month on, one month off. I'm also on an inhaler called Symbicort - this is used to decrease inflammation in my lungs. The only other time I take antibiotics is when I'm sick with an active infection and that is usually Cipro for the Pseudo, and Cloxycylin for the Staph. What is your daughter on?
