How do you make life easier?

Living with cf can be taxing, especially if you try not to let it dominate life as most of us here seem to aim for. So what do you do to allow you to get on with life a bit...enjoying the good things in life so to speak. After all if you work full time or even if you don't just getting the things done to stay healthy..eating well, treatments, exercise, medicine ordering, etc. can leave little time for hobbies, playtime, pursuing your dreams, and showing the one's you love how much you do care for them.

Two things I recently have done are;

1) hired a cleaning lady who comes in once a month and kicks dust/germ butt. She uses the hard hitting stuff I only wish in my wildest dreams to clean with. Really it's the best investment I've made in a long time.

2) Also, I have started ordering my groceries online. It was a nice surprise to find that we actually save money doing this...even with a $10 delivery fee. I'm not sure why but I think it's because it's so easy to see what the best deal is online. When at the store it's easy to get bamboozled by the bright colors and hard to read price tags. Online (acmemarkets.com) it's spreadsheet like and makes total sense to me. Not to mention the time savings. Each order is saved and I can reference past lists and check off items I want to buy again without even having to search. I'm sure staying away from the germs at the grocery store will help me in the long run too. Also, there's a whole lot less whim buying.

What's worked for you?

We have also hired a cleaner (she comes every other week)...absolutely money well spent! We will also be hiring someone to mow the grass because both my husband and I have pretty bad grass allergies.

When I'm on IVs, my mom comes over at least once a week to put some casseroles in the freezer or something and to do some light housework.

I've found that life is easier with convenience foods. We don't eat it right out of the box, I at least make it presentable and put a salad with it and some bread or something. It saves a lot of time. Plus, since they're single servings, I don't have to worry about leftovers.

The biggest thing that makes a difference is asking for help. I resisted that for so long. I wanted to do everything myself, but now I see that I just can't do that. The energy I have, I put into my marriage and my healthcare. Everything else is just sort of slack. Sorry that's not very descriptive.

Another thing that makes life easier is that we aren't parents. We talked about it for a long time, and eventually decided that we were willing to sacrifice that part of what marriage is designed to be. It was a tough choice, but it was the best one for us. Not have to worry about the "what ifs" takes our stress level down several notches.

We still have the milk man deliver milk and cream to our house once or twice a week. We order our beef from a meat locker -- usually a split quarter. The hamburger is really tasty.

When I do go to the grocery store -- they waive the $5 delivery charge if I spend more than $50, then I don't have to worry about filling up the cart with meat and dairy products.

I order most gifts online -- sephora.com for bath & body or makeup. Gift cards for the nieces & nephews, books from Amazon -- either with free shipping or 3rd party seller (used). I order a lot of my clothing & shoes online, DS's winter boots, clothing. Don't have to deal with scrounging thru crowds at the mall and most of the places I shop at have free shipping.

I also have gotten a cookbook called -- Fix it and Forget about it. Throw something in the slow cooker in the morning for dinner.

Hey Lauren, Like you i 1) have a cleaning lady.. If i think something is harmful to me in any way, i a) ask someone else or b) dont do it.. 2) Ask for help if i need it eg. when the kids were younger, i would ask if another parent could p/u and or d/o for practices. 3) iv'e gotten to the point of not pushing myself to hard (unless it's really important to me/my family). 4) i am feeding my soul spirtually (havn't see my threapist for quite some time, dont feel the need, feel a peace within from God/Jesus) I have thought about that grocery del. service, might do in future.. 1. I wash my nebs in a dishwasher. This has saved me more time than I can tell you - and makes me more compliant with meds because I always have clean nebs to use.

2. I purchased an eFlow that reduces neb times and improved medicatoin deposition deep into my lungs.

3. I travel often - and I get others to help me (bellman) to lug all my stuff around. I used to be stingy with my money and not want to pay for the "extras" but things like that save me so much time and extra effort.

4. I have a house cleaner which gives me extra time on the weekend to just relax or fit more exercise in

5. I'm buying a tiny washer/dryer combo for my place so I can save a few hours on the weekend of lugging my stuff to the laundrymat. I can't wait... it's going to add a few hours to my week!!!!!

6. I use paper EVERYTHING. Paper plates, paper cups, plastic utensils, etc. I use my dishwasher only for meds so all this paper stuff saves me a ton of time.

There are a few more things but I can't remember them right now....

This is a great thread though. I think we'll all learn from each other

I do only buy clothes that I don´t have to iron, saves time and energy!
I do also have somebody to clean once a week and we go eating outside a lot.
I would not use paper and plastic cups etc. because thats bad for the environment.
