How involved was your cf dr with your pregnancy?

My CF doctor was on board from the beginning. I had a local OB/GYN that I was hoping to deliver with & my CF doctor was in constant contact with her.

That included the oral antibiotics during my pregnancy prescribed by my CF Doctor & the insulin prescribed by the OB/GYN for my gestational diabetes.

WHen I had hemoptysis in my 8th month & went in for a clean out...I ended up being consulted by an OB/GYN that had gotten a crash course in CF pregnancy. Our clinic had quite a few CF Moms due in a short time of each other & needed a common OB/GYN as back up for them.

This OB/GYN at my CF Center ended up delivering me early. A decision made by my CF CLinic, My local OB/GYN as well as this OB/GYN at the Center. I had a c section to deliver early because of my hemoptysis.

I dont think I would have allowed ANY OB/GYN to make decisions that would affect my CF in anyway without consulting. My CF Doctor knew me so much better (before, during & after) pregnancy where the OB/GYN only knew me from the pregnancy!!!

My CF doctor takes care of my CF needs and I communicate those needs to my OB regularly. My pregnancy complications weren't CF related except for the very end when my lungs got infected and I had to take Zithro. Since I was on bed rest for preterm labor I couldn't go to my clinic, so I called and they called in a prescription to my pharmacy. After I gave birth I got redman's syndrome (bad rash) from vanco given for uterine infection and my CF clinic was very helpful since they know more about that med.

I actually changed my OB/GYN to the one my CF doctor recommended who had delivered babies for her other CF patients. The OB/GYn was not in network with my insurance, but the out of pocket costs were well worth if for the care i received. Both docs were in the same hospital and had several patients in common. Initially my cf doctor was not overly involved, however as my pregnancy progressed my cf team b/c more involved.

I did require iv abx the last week of my pregnancy. I was in preterm labor and had to be on the maternity floor. The nurses were not used to cf meds/regimen which was a littel stressful for the floor and for me. After i gave birth i was moved to from maternity to the cf unit to cont iv therapy for 1 more week.

My CF team checked daily on my babies in the nicu as well. If at all possible i would recommend your ob/gyn be at the same hospital as your cf doc.
