So on monday night I noticed that my numbers on my spritomter at home went down about 80-100 points. So I was like oh wow here we go. On wed I started on 5mg of predinsone (all I had at the time) and thur took 25mg and today started on what the doc ordered 30 mg which i will take for 5 days then 20mg for 5 days then 10 mg for 5 days. But I am not feeling any better and I have actually gotten worse. How long does it take to kick in so that I feel better?

When I start Prednisone, I usually start with 30 or 40 mg, and I can feel a defiinite difference within 48 hours. Remember that each person is different, but that's consistently been my experience. If you're not feeling right, don't hesitate to call your doctor again.

Its always best to start the higher dose first. My doc has me start at 40 mg and then call him that I started it. Don't hesitate to call your dr if you are not getting better. Prednisone is used to relieve inflammation caused by infection or asthma type reactions. Sometimes you need a higher dose or If Prednisone is not working you may have an infection that needs an antibiotic as well. Letting it get out of hand can make your recovery take longer.
Call the dr and see him. , he will be able to tell better what is happening.

What's it like going on prednisone? Do you guys feel a huge difference? Do you feel as congested? OR same congestion, just easier to breath? I'm interested...

I am on predinsone all the time but only 10mg every other day. when i get sick and tight my doc puts me on 40 everyday for a bit then tapers it. it really relieves my chest tightness. i don't suffer any other side effects other than that. oh, maybe it makes me more hungry too

Alisha,

Not sure what you mean by 'getting worse' but if you mean that your cough is more productive etc, it could be that the prednisone is reducing the inflammation in your airways allowing all the stagnant mucous to be coughed up more easily. This happens to me when I take a week of prednisone when having a flare up. On abut day two it feels like I'm having a major chest infection but it's actually that the airways are less constricted and therefore all the gunk can move more easily into the larger airways and be coughed out.

Hope you feel better soon.
