how much do you miss from work?

I was just wondering how much you miss work due to CF? Does your boss understand your situation? Do you do any work when you go to the hospital?
I am a teacher and i am almost finished with my home ivs. I guess i miss 3 weeks due to being in the hospital and a couple of weeks of just being sick.
Good thing is I have a great job where i work 3 day a week and have lots of vacation due to Thanks giving and Christmas. So i really don't miss that much at all.

I don't really miss too much from work. That being said, I just started back to work last monday (the 12th) after being gone for almost a month because of being in the hospital and home ivs. I don't usually call out for sick days unless I can barely move. I try to save them up so I can still get paid the first 7 days before my short term dis. starts if I have to go out for a while. I am lucky and don't get admitted very often tho I have a feeling this winter might prove me wrong if I can't figure this SOB thing out soon!

WHen I worked I really didnt miss a lot, but that wasnt because I shouldnt have. I was stupid or stubborn (depending on how you looked at it) and pushed myself until I had no choice but to go into the hospital.

Then I would be out for 2 weeks or more at a time. My first position in our local hospital was difficult because I was quite sick while in that department. My Supervisor finally suggested I look for another position & he was 100% right. The basement environment by the loading dock was not best for me.

After moving upstairs my health improved, but I still had by stints of hospital admits. I was very very redliable & was willing to work times when others werent so when it came time to get admitted I never heard any crap from my Superiors. I was very fortunate.

You guys who know me know that my doctor is a proponent of the Danish method of CF treatment - 3 weeks of IVs every 3 months whether I'm sick or not. I do them as home IVs. I miss half a day of work to go to that doc, so I miss half a day once a month when I'm not on IVs and once a week when I am. I almost always make up that time over the weekend. My work is VERY understanding about my CF.

I recently started the Denufosol clinical trial which ends up taking a full day away from work, although I usually try to combine my regular clinic visits with my Denufosol visits. I don't usually make up all 8 hours, but I do try to make up at least 4.

Since I've started seeing my current doc, I haven't missed a single day of work that wasn't a scheduled appointment (knock on wood). The frequent IVs keep me healthy and able to consistently work a 40-hour week, even when I'm on IVs.
