How to support transitioning?

two posts in the Family site already active on this,
searched the web and there's very little
more about transitioning when child has diabetes like <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://journal.diabetes.org/diabetesspectrum/00v13n2/pg83.htm">http://journal.diabetes.org/diabetesspectrum/00v13n2/pg83.htm</a> .
any thoughts about what families can do to help "launch" or support launch of their kid into adulthood?
any thouhts about the psychological aspects of transitioning - not just the new hospital thing?
anything parents can do except "get out of the way"?

All I can say is try your best to keep asking your kid questions and making sure they like their new doctor and staff. When I was transitioning, my mom just accepted where they told me to go, and who they told me to see. I did not like the new doctor at all, but she just acted like I was on my own from then on. I know she probably meant well but it made it alot harder. Just make sure that you both are happy with whoever they transition you to. If you have any doubts, ask for someone else, or find another on your own.
Since I felt alone at the time I just went with the guy they sent me to, and I had crappy care for over a year. I then had to find new people all on my own.
If you're not happy or have questions speak up b/c your kid might be too timid to.
Besides that, good luck.
