What HS percentage is everyone doing? I did the 3% for about a year and have been on 7% for a year. Does anyone do the 10%?
If you have different percentages have you seen a difference?

I do 9%, it works very well, but it is rough. I cough my head off. I guess that is what it is supposed to do, but I had to cut down to once a day for a little while. I either broke a rib or severly pulled a muscle. I was is pain for about 3 wks. Getting better now but scared to go back to twice a day.

I'm on 3% myself. I tried 6% and 7% too, and they made me gag too much that I couldn't cough productively. So the 3% works best for me. And it still gets up a lot of crap.

I use 10%. I also do more like 5ml each time. I do cough a ton, but that's the point. I emailed the UNC investigator after the initial US study, and asked him about how 7% was selected, and about using 10%. Here was his response:

Regarding the concentration that was studied, 7% was a compromise between a dose that was most effective and what is well tolerated (in short term studies of mucociliary clearance - where 0.9%, 3%, 7%, and 12% were tested - 7% and 12% were similar, and better than 0.9 and 3%, but 12% wasn't well tolerated). Therefore, if concentrations higher than 7% are well tolerated in an individual, we have often gone up to 10% with further benefit (if you tolerate 7% easily, you probably will tolerate 10%, but obviously should do this in conjunction with your CF doctor). Your instinct to increase to 10% is probably a good one, therefore...

It also saves me half of the copay - my insurance considers 10% and 3% two difference prescriptions.

I am on 7% and I am having way too much trouble with it. Currently I take 3ml of the 10% and mix it with 2 ml of the 3%. If I wanted to switch to only the 3% how much would i do?<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
