Ok so I have decided to be more active with my medicine(my boyfriend is making me). I went off of HS for a long time because I got too tired doing it but I feel horrible and want to start it again.

I have totally forgotten how to mix it. I have 10% and 3%. How do I mix it? I have the syringes but don't know what to do.

Hmmm-you have 10% and 3%?? I have 10% and .9%, which I mix together to make 7%. So-I don't think this will be the same as yours...but to make 7%-my CF clinic told me to mix 6ml of the 10% with 3ml of the .9%. I then neb 4ml of this mixture.

This is why I think they need to come up with a better vial that contains exactly what we need to mix of EACH of these. Who knows if that will ever happen. According to my docs, I mix 10% (4 ml) with .9% (2 ml). I have also been sent 3% from CF services pharmacy when I first started HS and was told to mix it the same... which makes NO sense since they're two diff. potencies. Urgh. So, without any change in my Rx (just refilling it), they now send the small vials of .9%. This is all really confusing, but I figure if it works and you're able to tolerate it, as long as you're close on the dosing, it really shouldn't matter, should it?! As long as you can tolerate it (which you should make sure in a Dr. office first).

I tried it last night and boy was it hard! I was coughing so much and it started to hurt my back. I only lasted about 10 minutes. Is it bad that I don't do the whole thing? I am dreading doing it today

I wouldnt feel bad about not doing the whole thing. Do as you can tolerate. I couldnt handle the whole thing when I first started. I just coughed too much.

sonia, i used to think like you--that the higher the concentration i could handle the better. i was doing 10% pretty much straight and could get a ton of stuff up with it. however, when i went into the hospital recently with as many asthma as CF symptoms, one of the things my doctor suggested was to cut the strength of my HS. i'm now doing the normal 6%-7% and my small airways are a lot happier! it may have been affecting my lungs when i didn't realize it, in other words.

the strange thing is that i hadn't just started the 10%--i have been doing it for well over a year with no problems. there was a combination of factors coming into play, and maybe in the future it would be a good experiment to see of doing a stronger % would cause the same results.
